IFTRA is an international forum of teacher regulatory authorities from Africa, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand and Australia.

Our Work

IFTRA is a forum for teacher regulatory authorities to collaborate on our core work - regulation of the teaching profession. The role of teacher regulatory authorities is complex and multi-faceted, but at its heart concerns safeguarding the interests of students and children.

Through the IFTRA forum, members from around the world are able to share in relation to our work:

  • the development and implementation of professional standards for teachers

  • matters related to compliance, professional conduct and discipline for teachers

  • legal and policy issues related to professional regulation

  • quality assurance of teacher preparation programs

  • impact of social, economic and political factors on the work of teachers and regulation of the profession

  • promotion of the profession.

Every two years, IFTRA holds a conference hosted by one of its members. The next conference will be held in June 2024, hosted by the Australasian Teacher Regulatory Authorities (ATRA) in Brisbane, Australia.
